On Saturday, October 24, 2009 more than 450 guests gathered at the Fairmont Hotel - San Jose to celebrate a Legacy of Compassion.  The founding of O’Connor Hospital in 1889 was the fulfillment of a vow by Judge Myles P. O’Connor and his wife, Amanda, to build a facility to serve the people of thriving Santa Clara County. The valley was in need of a hospital and Amanda O’Connor requested that the Daughters of Charity manage the new San Jose Sanitarium and Home. One hundred and twenty years later, O’Connor Hospital continues to flourish due to its cherished legacy of compassionate service rendered by its early pioneers.

The Sprit of O'Connor Gala 2009 benefited O'Connor Hospital's Imaging Services Department with the hopes of creating a state-of-the-art full-field digital mammography suite. The total cost of the new equipment and installation is approximately $800,000. Individual gifts coupled with the proceeds from the Spirit of O’Connor 2009 will help O’Connor achieve its goal to provide women with one of the best methods for early breast cancer detection.
